A poem for the times
it’s war and shellings
families
separated
goodbyes to dads brothers husbands
evacuations
cancelled and the promise of ceasefires
shattered.
It’s streams of refugees
racism even now?
who gets in and who can
get out
We forgot our humanity, again?
Why do we have any refugees at all
Why are we fighting
Haven’t we learned
anything
Why can’t I stop thinking about what I would do with my dog, of all things, if the tables were turned?
And my life upended.
It’s flooding in Australia
nobody’s
helping
And there are still Democrats and Republicans drawing stark outlines between things
Sit stay
We are fighting about oil?
even still
And inflation
Don’t forget climate change
and it’s going
to
get
worse
And…….
Where can we go to escape the noise?
All I want is to lose myself in the throat of a flower
